Some nights call for a quick, comforting, one-pan meal that feels homemade without a lot of effort. This ground meat and potato skillet is one of those recipes I throw together when I want something filling, flavorful, and made with ingredients I usually already have on hand.

The magic is in the fresh blended tomato sauce—simple, bold, and full of flavor. Everything comes together in one pan, making cleanup easy and dinner stress-free.

Ingredients

For the Meat & Potatoes

  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, turkey, or chicken)

  • 3 potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 1 dried red chili pepper (optional, for extra flavor)

  • Oil for cooking

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Sauce

  • 3 tomatoes

  • ½ bunch fresh cilantro

  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste

  • 1 green jalapeño

  • 1 spoonful chicken bouillon

  • Cajun seasoning, to taste

  • 3 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Brown the meat

Heat a large pan over medium heat with a drizzle of oil. Add the ground meat and the dried red chili pepper. Cook until the meat is fully browned, breaking it up as it cooks.

  2. Add onions and potatoes

Stir in the diced onion and let it cook with the meat to release flavor. Add the potatoes, season lightly with salt and pepper, cover, and cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, stirring occasionally.

  3. Make the sauce

While the meat and potatoes cook, add the tomatoes, cilantro, garlic paste, jalapeño, chicken bouillon, Cajun seasoning, and water to a blender. Blend until smooth.

  4. Combine and simmer

Once the meat and potatoes are fully cooked, pour the sauce into the pan. Stir well to coat everything evenly.

  5. Let it come together

Let the dish simmer on medium heat for about 7 minutes, allowing the sauce to slightly thicken and soak into the meat and potatoes.

  6. Serve and enjoy

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot and enjoy.

Tips & Variations

  • Swap ground beef for turkey or chicken for a lighter option.

  • Add extra jalapeño or Cajun seasoning if you like more heat.

  • This dish pairs well with rice, tortillas, or warm bread.

  • Leftovers taste even better the next day.
